Weaver Estate Wines

Family vineyard, winery & guest cottages

About Us

Weaver Estate Wines vineyard and winery is family owned and operated, in the Alexandra Basin, Central Otago. We are striving to produce affordable high quality, hand crafted wines that reflect our unique location a stones throw from the Clutha River.

It is this location on the Clutha River that first saw our ancestors arrive in the area back in 1864 following the Gold Rush. The Weaver family had a number of dredges along this river between Alexandra & Clyde. The Weaver family is now into the sixth generation, living in the area.

Our Winemakers

Jess is the sixth generation of the Weaver family living in Alexandra. After studying Viticulture & Oenology at Lincoln University she has been making the wines since our first vintage in 2009. Jess and her husband Kilian spend a lot of time travelling and working in different wine regions throughout the world when they are not making wine here in Central Otago. Kilian, originally from Germany, completed his wine studies & masters at the LWG in Veitsöcheim, Germany before making New Zealand his new home.

Together Jess & Kilian are focusing on a very high quality production of wines that starts in the vineyard. Along with the passion for small lot winemaking, use of oak and alternate winemaking techniques, they are looking to produce individual wines that express them as winemakers and the unique location of the vineyard in the Alexandra Basin of Central Otago. Winemaker winery and vineyard tours can be organised by prior arrangement.

Cellar Door manager, Guest check-in

Mark Weaver, Hayley Miller and Liz Weaver are the friendly faces you will often find in charge of our Cellar Door and welcoming you for tastings and sales. They are also in charge of guest accommodation bookings and check-in for the vineyard cottages.  Mark and Hayley live on the property and enjoy all the varied activities involved in running a vineyard.

Vineyard & Winery

The property is 3.5ha with plantings of Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc and Muscat, first plantings were in 2005. All vineyard activites are by hand; pruning, canopy management, shoot & fruit thinning, and harvest. The vineyard and winery are operated under and fully certified by Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand.

The winery, located on site, was newly established for the 2016 vintage. Our wines are all grown, produced, bottled and stored on site.
